Albuquerque Firefighters Honored for Saving the Lifetime of a three Yr Outdated Lady

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Matt Quintana is part of a group of Albuquerque firefighters honored Friday for saving the life of a three-year-old girl.

KRQE News 13 first reported on the case in February.

As a punishment, the little girl was placed in an ice-cold bath. When the Albuquerque Fire Department got there, she was unconscious and hypothermic with her temperature of 80 degrees, 18 degrees below normal.

Quintana, his partner Jeremy Gonzales and Paul Buck decided that she had to be transferred immediately to the UNM hospital.

She and paramedics from the Albuquerque ambulance then worked on her all the way to the hospital to make sure she had oxygen to keep her brain viable.

When they took her to the hospital, there was still no sign of life. The next day, they learned that UNM hospital staff had been working on her for almost two hours before they could finally take her pulse.

The little girl spent six weeks in the hospital.

On Friday the entire team was presented with a gold coin from the city and named “Hero of the Week”.
