ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque police have arrested a 16-year-old boy who is suspected of stabbing his mother to death at her West Side home early Wednesday morning.

Michael Gallegos is charged with an open murder count.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said officers had been called to the family home on the 9500 block of Sun Dancer near Unser and Paradise NW because of a disturbance.

He said Michael Gallegos was arrested at the scene.

“The mother, identified as Sara Gallegos, 41, was found dead in her bedroom with multiple injuries, including several large cuts from a knife,” Gilbert Gallegos wrote in a press release.

According to a criminal complaint in the Metropolitan Court, when he interviewed Michael Gallegos, Detectives said he couldn’t remember anything from the night before. He said he was playing video games around 11 p.m. and the next thing he knew he woke up around 1:30 a.m. in a police car
