ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque police opened two new homicide investigations Sunday morning, including one against a motorcyclist who crashed after being shot.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said officers responded to the crash at the intersection of Broadway and Coal.

“The motorcyclist appears to have been shot before the accident,” Gallegos said in an email. “The homicide investigators are investigating.”

The second investigation concerns a death on the West Side.

Gallegos said officials discovered a body in a house when responding to a disturbance at block 7300 on Blue Avena SW. The address is near Unser and Arenal.

“Detectives are responding to the crime scene to open an investigation,” Gallegos said.

He did not say why this case was suspected of fouling or give an age or gender for any of the victims. It is unclear whether the investigators have a suspect in both cases.

If both deaths are classified as homicides, it will be the 51st and 52nd in Albuquerque this year.
