Balloons fill the skies of Albuquerque on the second day of the annual fiesta
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (AP) – Hundreds of balloons have filled the sky over Albuquerque at the city’s annual International Balloon Fiesta.
Shortly before 6.30 a.m. on Sunday, the organizers hoisted the green flag, giving the all-clear for the mass ascent.
Balloons were mostly tied to the ground on Saturday due to fog and this mass ascent was canceled.
But the weather on Sunday was ideal and balloons of all kinds took off from the Balloon Fiesta Park.
The Fiesta attracts pilots from around the world and from 41 US states.
Organizers expect tens of thousands of spectators for the opening weekend and exponentially more during the nine-day event.
The spectacle has grown over nearly five decades, adding millions of dollars to the economy each year.
