Bookworks Albuquerque hosts Stephen King and George RR Martin, 6/16

The long-time indie bookstore in Albuquerque, Bookworks, welcomes Stephen King on the 16th. What was an incredible event opportunity has become even more remarkable as a very special guest was announced during the billing.

George RR Martin, creator of GAME OF THRONES, beloved New Mexico writer and patron of the arts, will join King on the Kiva Auditorium stage for talks and an element of literary imagination that fans of the esteemed authors will find hard to resist.

“One day we were chatting about the event in the store dreaming about how we could ever have an event more epic than Stephen King. ‘But what if we got George RR Martin to interview Stephen King? Director Amanda Sutton. Martin is a friend of indie booksellers in New Mexico and has attended several events with the store, including a sold out chat with Diana Gabaldon in 2013. Martin also regularly welcomes renowned writers to his Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe.

During a conference call with King’s assistant and publicist at Scribner, the Bookworks team mentioned the idea of having the two authors appear together.

The pieces fell when Martin contacted his agent, Chris Lotts, also Stephen King’s agent, and expressed his interest in hosting King at the Cocteau. No new events could be added to the tour, but Martin was invited and kindly agreed to join the bill for the Albuquerque event. He will speak to Stephen King’s son, author Joe Hill, at the Cocteau on May 23, following the publication of his book THE FIREMAN. On June 16, Martin will perform with King in the Kiva Auditorium. Both authors are happy to share the stage.

The authors sign books before the event. When purchasing a ticket, each participant receives an END OF WATCH hardcover with 400 signed copies, which are distributed at random. END OF WATCH is the third book in the Bill Hodges trilogy that began with Edgar Award winner MR MERCEDES, followed by FINDERS KEEPERS. All of the books in the trilogy, along with many of Mr. King’s titles, will be available for purchase at the event, as will Mr. Martin’s signed books.
