ALBUQUERQUE, NN (AP) – The retirement of teachers and other public education workers in New Mexico has increased 40% this year, and the pandemic is believed to be one of several possible causes of the increase.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that the state Educational Retirement Board processed 1,269 applications for retirement on July 1 this year, up from 906 the year before and the highest number in seven years.
