Lots of of cyclists compete in Albuquerque regardless of the smoke

Over 600 riders from 36 states came to Albuquerque this weekend to compete in the USA Cycling Masters Championship, but the view from the track was very different the other day.

On Sunday, the EPA announced that the air quality was 174, in the middle of the unhealthy range.

“About 300 we and the EPA would recommend looking into whether the benefits of the event are worth the risk of being outside,” said Garcia.

Although the sky was hazy and the Sandia Mountains were out of sight, the cyclists stepped forward and gave everything for the race.

“I was puffing and puffing all the time, regardless of the air quality, I was just happy to have air,” said Kathy Alvarez, cyclist.
