New Mexico publishes checklist of candidates for the marijuana panel

According to state law, the advisory committee must be set up by September 1st at the latest. The panel is tasked with advising the cannabis control department on developing rules for best practice, public health and safety, and promoting economic and cultural diversity when it comes to licensing and employment opportunities.

The committee includes the state counsel and one representative each from the New Mexico Administrative Office of District Attorneys, the New Mexico Sheriffs’ Association, and the New Mexico Association of Chiefs of Police. The head of the state department of regulation and licensing also appoints several members assigned to specific groups or with specific professional qualifications.

Retail sales of adult cannabis in New Mexico are slated to begin no later than April 1, 2022.
