ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Are you hungry for success? So is the New Mexico Restaurant Association’s hope. You have started a new campaign to attract more new Mexicans to work in the hospitality industry.

For the past year and a half, restaurants have been concerned about getting customers on their doors. But the tables have turned and companies are now concerned about finding enough workers. “We have a huge need in the restaurant industry, we need thousands of people, pretty much every restaurant you see has a sign looking for people,” said Carol Wight, CEO of the New Mexico Restaurant Association (NMRA.). ). “So you can go straight to any restaurant and find a job.”

The NMRA has just launched a new recruitment campaign called “Hungry for Success?”. The focus of the campaign is the promotion of the first job for young professionals, people who are looking for a second chance and a fresh start, as well as the presentation of other exciting opportunities that the industry brings with it.

“Every day is a different adventure and it’s just full of joy, people come back to eat, they want to be here and we want you here,” said Dolores Welk-Jack, the manager of Tomasita’s in Albuquerque.

Welk-Jack said her restaurant and countless others had to limit opening times and close parts of restaurants because of their low staff. She said this new recruitment campaign was a welcome sight, especially with the expanded federal benefits that raised the unemployed an additional $ 300 each week ending this Saturday.

“It was a fight because people don’t show up because they know they are falling back on unemployment,” Welk-Jack said.

Both the state restaurant association and Welk-Jack don’t blame anyone for taking advantage of the improved perks over the past year. But they said the time has come to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities the food industry has to offer.

“When you show up at a restaurant, you’re in really good shape if you’re interested in a job. So fill out the application, insert it, and I’m here to tell you that most restaurants would hire you right away, ”said Wight.

The NMRA has dozens of job postings on their website. This Wednesday at 3 p.m., the NMRA is holding a Zoom Talk with Workforce Solutions so the public can join in and ask questions. For more information, see nmrestaurants.mcjobboard.net/jobs.
