New Mexico Tech hosts the annual presidential golf match

SOCORRO, NM (KRQE) – The annual New Mexico Tech Presidents Golf Tournament ended in Socorro on Friday. This is a big tournament for the university and it was great that they got to do it even during the current pandemic.

“This is an important event to raise funds for students, scholarships and students who are in need at the end of their careers. The opportunity to have this tournament and bring in a little more money because the students really took advantage of it due to COVID is really glad we got that started, ”said NMT President Stephen Wells.

It was a successful and safe tournament as they adhered to public health regulations and raised a total of over $ 170,000 for NMT students. It was a lot of fun for everyone involved and it was a great day for an employee of the university. Randall Gann works in the communications department and the former golfer hit his very first hole-in-one on Friday. It wasn’t an easy hole-in-one (if there is one) either, as he hit a hole-in-one on a 388 yard par 4.

“So I was swinging as hard as I could. The line was perfect, it was super high. It looked like it was definitely not going to be a great shot. I drive around for probably ten minutes, can’t find any balls, and then Dave said, “I’ll check the hole,” and there was actually a Titleist 1 in the hole. You know, it’s a very special feeling, what a great course, what a great tournament. If you don’t know about it, check it out, it is well worth your time, effort and charitable donation, ”said Randall Gann.
