Plastic bag ban returns to Albuquerque August 1st

“I didn’t know the ban was going back into effect, but I’m not surprised and yes, I’m prepared,” said Kathleen Hardy, a shopper.

Most stores in town will no longer be able to hand out plastic bags to customers, even for a fee.

“I’ve been prepared since the last ban, I thought it was better to play it safe,” said Vicente Alirez, a buyer.

But the stores said they have a plan for the bags they already have in stock. Stores like John Brooks said they would use their extra plastic bags behind the scenes or send them to stores outside of town.

“I have them right next to my front door so they are always there when I leave as a reminder,” Alirez said.
