ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The recently reopened Scalo will soon be navigating the waters without its acclaimed chef who ran the Nob Hill restaurant’s revamped menu.

Chef Gaetano Ascione confirmed that he will be leaving the Italian restaurant on Sunday to return to his restaurants in Chicago and Pittsburgh.

“I needed something bigger for me,” he said. “… I had to do a little more, a little closer to my dream.”

Earlier this summer, Ascione said he was excited to fill a void in the Albuquerque food scene by bringing his experience and unique take on Italian cuisine to the restaurant.

During his decade-long career, Ascione worked around the world, operating restaurants with Michelin and Zagat ratings.

He said the restaurant has not yet found his replacement, but he has high hopes for their ability to do so.

“I love Scalo. Scalo has a great future, you know? “Said Ascione.” … It will be one of the best restaurants here. “
