Some New Mexico ski resorts don’t have any snow

“We had a late snow year – we didn’t open until January,” says Christiana Hudson, Marketing Manager at Pajarito Mountain, “but that’s really unusual for Pajarito.”

Hudson says while they are closed they are still busy preparing for whenever they can finally open.

“Unfortunately, the wind storms overturned a lot of trees last week,” said Hudson. “So our crews are out there with chainsaws, making sure the area is clear when we can open up.”

These resorts are currently open:

  • Angel fire
  • Red river
  • Ski Santa Fe
  • Sipapu
  • Taos ski area

“Our best snow months are yet to come,” said George Brooks of Ski New Mexico, a group promoting ski tourism in the state. “In New Mexico we could still get a lot of snow in March and finish with a bang!”

Hudson and Brooks are each constantly monitoring the weather to see how things will play out. Brooks says they hope Pajarito will get snow soon and are even monitoring a storm that should hit there by Christmas.

No matter which ski resort you want to visit, be sure to check what’s open so you don’t get caught off guard when you get there.
