Suspected arson within the Islamic Heart of New Mexico stays in jail in the interim

Camarena appeared in court on Tuesday. The prosecutors asked a district court judge to keep her detained, but the argument did not go far.

“I will ask for a sequel at this point,” said Rosebrough.

According to the affidavit, a family member is the one who identified Camarena from photos and security footage. The warrant showed that she was twice in the Islamic Center of New Mexico before allegedly starting those fires.

“At this point, Your Honor, the state is asking to continue the hearing today,” said Public Prosecutor Carmen Gutierrez.

Judge Hart granted the defense’s motion to continue the hearing – that is, whether or not Camarena will stay in jail before her trial will be decided in another hearing.
