Suspected medical episodes resulted in 2 deadly crashes in ABQ »Albuquerque Journal

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque police say two drivers appear to have suffered medical episodes before they crashed and were found dead in their vehicles in various incidents.

Rebecca Atkins, a police spokeswoman, said speed was not a factor in either of the accidents involving men in their late 60s.

Police responded to the first incident around 6 a.m. near Lomas and Girard NE and found a dead man in an SUV. Atkins said the man pulled onto the sidewalk and ran over two traffic signs.

After that, around 1:30 p.m., police responded to an accident in the 3800 block of Academy Parkway NE near Osuna and Jefferson.

Atkins said the driver crashed into some bushes right next to the road.

In either case, Atkins said the drug or alcohol use is unknown and the results of the toxicology report of the autopsies are pending.
