The parish mourns the lack of the Albuquerque priest

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The ward mourns the loss of an Albuquerque priest who was killed in an accident believed to have been caused by road racers. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office reports that on the night of Friday, May 21, two vehicles were driving when one hit a car carrying Reverend Graham Golden and brother Lorenzo Romero.

Should road racers in New Mexico get tougher penalties?

The couple had withdrawn from the Abbey of Santa Maria de la Vid. Golden was killed in the crash and Romero was injured but is expected to recover.

It is unclear whether the authorities have identified suspects. A vigil prayer will take place on Thursday, May 27th at 7pm in the parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. The funeral mass will take place on Friday, May 28th at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary.

Archbishop John C. Wester made the following statement on the death of Father Dr. Graham.

It was with deep sadness that we heard in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe the news of the tragic death of Father Graham Golden in a car accident last Friday evening. I speak to Abbot Joel Garner, O. Praem., And to all of the Norbertines, our deepest condolences and assurances of prayers in these days of grief and loss. Father Graham lived the charisms of the Norbertines fully and with great enthusiasm. He was deeply contemplative and energetically apostolic. He found the time to be present at almost every event, gathering, celebration, and liturgy of the Archdiocese that could be imagined. He sat on numerous boards and was always available to help. He was infectious with joy and at the same time able to explore the depths of human struggle and challenge. I can’t even imagine how much he is missed by his beloved community in Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey. He will be missed by all of us in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and by all whose lives he touched – and there have been many. Grant eternal rest to Father Graham, Lord. Rest in peace. May his soul and all the souls of the departed believers rest in peace by the mercy of God.

Archbishop John C. Wester
