Two I-40 building initiatives west of Albuquerque will resume on Monday

The project includes work on the east-facing lanes – including the casino entrances and exits – and will transition to the west-facing lanes including the entrances and exits.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to take five weeks to complete, with the expected completion date being the week of January 3rd. During this time, speeds are reduced and traffic in the area is reduced to one lane.

Crews will be working in the area Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The orange barrels are preserved even in the absence of the crews due to the nature of the project.

Farther west, near Laguna, a 5-mile construction project on I-40 resumed in a westerly direction on Monday. The project was discontinued for the holiday weekend.

Since the start of the project on November 11, drivers have experienced backlogs in the lanes in a westerly direction – even traffic jams of up to 50 kilometers in length.
